Hanover (dpa / lni) - Lower Saxony's Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) hopes that the restrictions in the corona pandemic will be relaxed from February.

"My clear goal is that the additional restrictions do not have to be extended beyond January," said Weil of the "Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung" (Saturday).

"But a goal is different from a promise, that must be clear to everyone."

Although the corona numbers in Lower Saxony are still below the level of several other federal states, even after rising again, the tightened lockdown will take effect from Sunday.

A smaller proportion of the pupils can still come to school and there are also fewer contact restrictions for private childcare.

The state leaves the restriction of the radius of movement in hotspots to the municipalities and does not make them an obligation.

Weil told the newspaper: “Of course we will not uphold the strict standards for a day longer than necessary.

This applies to the economic as well as to the social and private sphere. "

The head of the country showed understanding for a certain Corona fatigue in the population.

“We politicians know the feeling of attrition all too well.

We have had a permanent pressure situation for almost a year now.

We all want nothing more than that Corona should finally take a back seat, but now we have to get through the winter first. "
