The Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Eng. Suhail bin Muhammad Al Mazrouei, revealed that the ministry has 22 projects in the eastern region to drain rain water, including canals, water barriers and ferries.

He stated that the ministry is dealing with infrastructure development projects, whose value exceeds approximately 10 billion dirhams, within its five-year plan 2018-2023, and includes the projects of the investment program of the ministry and the committee to follow up the implementation of the initiatives of His Highness the President of the State.

He pointed out that “the developmental and developmental projects supervised by the Ministry are taking firm steps towards strengthening the country's position as a global center for sustainable development.

This came during a field tour for him in a number of projects on the eastern coast, which began with the Fujairah Police General Headquarters project, which is expected to be completed during the second quarter of this year.

The minister continued his field tour by visiting Al Ghayl Dam, Kalba (Sharjah).

He stressed that his ministry is completing the state’s efforts to construct dams in various regions in the north of the country, which number 150 dams and water barriers, and supervises 104 of them, with a design capacity of 130 million cubic meters of water.

He explained that "the importance of water dams lies in providing a permanent and continuous water resource through rainwater harvesting, as the Ministry's dams collected more than 40 million cubic meters last year of rainwater, which is a major supporter of the UAE's 2036 water security strategy."

He added that dams have a great impact on the tourism sector, as they are included in the list of tourist places that tourists visit in the UAE, after drawing up plans for water tourism, by implementing rest breaks, artificial lakes and parks on some dams, which helped improve the area in terms of aesthetics, and thus revitalize the tourism sector.

He said that the ministry has many precautionary measures and measures that the work teams implement to coincide with the start of the rainy season, as the ministry has identified 22 projects for rainwater drainage channels, water barriers and ferries in the eastern region.

The precautionary measures and measures also include maintenance operations and the installation of remote sensors to monitor climate changes, as well as the formation of an emergency committee in all projects, explaining that the Ministry's work teams are always ready in the field to closely follow developments in weather conditions in preparation for weather forecasts, and that coordination is made permanently. Al Mazrouei inspected the project to develop and raise the efficiency of Sheikh Hamad bin Abdullah Road in Fujairah, which cost 250 million dirhams, and the ministry completed the complete paving of asphalt layers in the project and opened roads in all traffic intersections (Najimat, Al Salam, Insurance, and Al-Ghamrah) and operating all traffic signals And the operation of lighting in large parts of the project, in order to further enhance the flow of traffic and safety of traffic until the final completion of the project and open the road to traffic in the first quarter of this year.

The Ministry had completed the completion of three pedestrian tunnels according to the highest international standards used to ensure the safety of pedestrian crossing the length of the project, and with regard to the “Merashid” tunnel, works are underway according to the plan. He added that «the ministry used the technology of recycling drilling materials in the project to develop and raise the efficiency and complete the Maliha road from Sheikh Khalifa Street and E99 Road in Fujairah and link them (the first phase), to take advantage of 90% of the recycled materials in the stages of the implementation of the project, and also used LED lights in lighting The road, which in turn, contributed to reducing energy consumption by up to 50%.

For example, road projects use cold asphalt recycling technology that depends on crushing, mixing, paving and compressing existing asphalt layers with new layers, so that the new layers will have better properties than the old ones thanks to mixing them with cement and compressing them using specialized machines for this purpose, in addition to using a material. The polymer in the asphalt mixture due to its distinct characteristics and its contribution to bearing heavy truck weights.
