A police officer, injured in clashes with supporters of President Donald Trump, succumbed to his injuries. 

A police officer died of injuries sustained in clashes with supporters of President Donald Trump when they broke into the Capitol in Washington on Wednesday, police said Thursday evening.

Constable Brian Sicknick "was deployed to the clashes on Capitol Hill on Wednesday January 6, 2021 and was injured in physical contact with protesters," Capitol Police said in a statement.

"He returned to his quarters and collapsed. He was taken to the local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries" Thursday evening, the statement said.
