Dozens of students gathered in the corridors of the Faculty of Industrials of the

Polytechnic University of Valencia

(UPV) and the Ginés de los Ríos classroom of the

University of Murcia

on the first day of face-to-face exams are images that have aroused university students from both autonomies, which have been demanding for days that the tests be carried out in a telematic mode, in order to avoid trips to the centers and coexistence in the classrooms just at a time when the pandemic is worsening.

However, their mobilization has not been attended.

At the

University of Murcia

, its rector,

José Luján

, recalled in a statement that the exams, "unless provided by the health authority", will be carried out in person because measures have been taken to guarantee safe environments and there have been no contagions university activity, in addition to the fact that the Committee of Experts of the Region does not consider them "an element of risk in themselves."

Moreover, in statements to Onda Regional, he has assured that he does not understand controversy, that the classrooms are safe and that in this January call "the maximum number of students will coincide examining themselves at the same time is 2,500, distributed among fifty buildings ".

In the case of the

Valencian Community

, in its five public campuses the exams will also be carried out in person, although their beginning coincided with the entry into force of the restrictive measures announced by the Generalitat last Tuesday and which include, among others, the advance of the curfew at ten o'clock at night or the perimeter closure of some municipalities, as has also happened in Murcia.

The Department of Universities, Carolina Pascual, has met today via telematics with the rectors and rectors of the universities to address the resumption of classes and it has been agreed to maintain the planned formula of presence, with

reduced capacity

, staggering of access and

permanent

ventilation

of classrooms and spaces.

Ginés de los Ríos Classroom of the University of Murcia, yesterday.

It is about following the protocols and contingency plans provided for in each university, although permits will be provided for those students residing in confined municipalities, so that they can attend the tests, and the time of completion of the exams will be taken into account. on evening shift so that it does not interfere with the curfew.

These measures are considered insufficient by some student unions, who do not understand that presence is maintained after seeing images such as those that have been produced this morning at the Faculty of Industrials of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), with students populating the hallways before entering the classroom.

"It is evident that the protocol has failed and we will reinforce the measures,"

official UPV sources commented to El Mundo.

"The students were summoned to the classroom door every five minutes, but since it was raining and cold, they all entered the building, in which there is no access control because they are buildings with sufficient capacity. It was the first day already first hour. The rest of the day has developed normally. And we will continue to reinforce the measures, "they added.

"We will be vectors of contagion"

Faced with the images and protests of the UPV students, the claim has been extended to other campuses, such as the University of Valencia (UV) or the Miguel Hernández de Alicante (UMH) that will begin their tests next week.

The students consider that the measures announced by the Generalitat Valenciana are "imprecise and not very effective", which means that the presence exposes them to the virus and they end up being "vectors of contagion".

"There is no detailed plan. We do not know how they are going to reduce the capacity and redistribute the students because they do not control the arrival of the students and there are crowds in the corridors," explains to this newspaper

María Sales

, of the Assembly of Representatives of the UV students.

"We demand online examinations for health reasons, so as not to have to take public transport, where there are crowds, and in the case of some colleagues, not to have to leave the perimeter of their locality or their community, which if they are like this is because the incidence of the virus is very high. Many of us live with people at risk and being present can turn us into direct vectors of contagion towards our relatives, "insists Sales.

The representative of the university students recalls that this circumstance could have been foreseen, since the teaching throughout the semester has been in many cases online or blended, and distance tests should have been prepared, which she does not consider advantageous at all.

"The time is reduced, there is no possibility of going back on the answers nor can you consult the teachers, who recognize that in this modality there is no time neither to copy nor to consult. We ask it only for health," he sentence.
