He changed his mind.

The Norwegian deputy who proposed Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize no longer considers that the American president deserves this distinction, he said on Thursday.

Christian Tybring-Gjedde, elected from the populist anti-immigration right in Norway, is disappointed with Trump's attitude since his electoral defeat.

When he proposed the president for the Nobel Prize last September, the elected official was in admiration of the results obtained by Donald Trump in the Middle East.

But his behavior since then totally disqualifies him.

An action deemed positive internationally

"He has achieved results in the Middle East for peace between Israel and several of the neighboring countries," the deputy said on TV2 channel Nyhetskanalen.

“But when you see what happened next and what just happened, it would be totally against nature for him to win such a prize.

"

A Swedish MP had also nominated Donald Trump for the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to bring Serbia and Kosovo closer together.

The American billionaire has since refused to admit his defeat in the presidential election and several of his supporters invaded the Capitol on Wednesday and committed deadly violence, which Trump is said to have fueled by his speeches.

“Shameful” behavior

"After the electoral defeat, he was almost mentally unstable, judging by his behavior," continued Christian Tybring-Gjedde on Norwegian television.

“I find it shameful what he did after the election.

He should have long accepted defeat.

"

Tens of thousands of people around the world (parliamentarians and ministers, former laureates, university professors, etc.) are entitled to submit an application for the Nobel Peace Prize.

The Nobel committee indicates that it accepts all valid nominations but specifies that being proposed for the prize does not amount to a dubbing on its part.
