Halle (dpa) - With the completion of the modernization work at the main train station in Halle, there will be significant restrictions between January 14th and 17th.

During this period, travelers would have to prepare for diversions, cancellations and replacement buses in both the S-Bahn and regional and long-distance services, the railway announced on Friday.

On January 16 and 17, train traffic at the main station will come to a complete standstill, said a rail spokesman.

On the two days before, traffic was severely restricted.

In long-distance traffic, the ICE line between Frankfurt and Berlin is to be diverted via Leipzig main station over the entire period.

The ICE, which runs between Munich and Hamburg, will be diverted from Erfurt, so that there will be no stop at the main station in Halle.

In regional and S-Bahn traffic, the particularly frequented S3 and S5 lines would generally run on January 14th and 15th, the train spokesman said.

However, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., operations stop here too.

With the commissioning of platforms 1, 2 and 3 on January 17th, after more than six years, Deutsche Bahn wants to complete the renovation and modernization work at the main station.

Among other things, the last cables would have to be pulled and the signal box checked, said the railway spokesman.

According to its own information, Deutsche Bahn can hardly predict how many travelers will be affected due to the decreasing volume of traffic during the corona pandemic.
