House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she has received assurances that outgoing President Donald Trump will not undertake any hostilities, while Democrats are expected to raise the impeachment case for Trump on Monday over congressional events.

Pelosi indicated that she had spoken with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley about what she called the precautions available to prevent Trump from carrying out hostilities or ordering a nuclear strike.

In a message to the Democratic members of the House, Pelosi added that the American people must be protected from what she called Trump's unbalanced attack on America and its democracy, describing him as an unstable president.

Pelosi said that if Trump does not leave office soon, Congress will act on it, noting that she has not yet received a response from Vice President Mike Pence regarding the activation of the 25th amendment to the Constitution.

Reuters reported that Democrats in the House of Representatives intend to impeach Trump on Monday.

But Republican minority leader Kevin McCarthy said the president’s parliamentary trial 12 days before the inauguration would divide the country.

McCarthy said in a statement that he is seeking to contact President-elect Joe Biden to speak with him to discuss "ways to work together to calm the atmosphere and unify the country to solve the challenges facing America."

Reuters reported that at least one Republican member in the Senate supported possible efforts by Democrats in the US Congress to take measures to impeach Trump for a second time with the aim of impeaching him, two days after a crowd of his supporters stormed the Capitol Hill Congress building following allegations echoed by No Support for election fraud.

And after the "Trumpians" stormed the Congress building on Wednesday - in an unprecedented incident in American democracy - and the number of deaths that resulted, the Democratic lawmakers submitted a bill to impeach Trump and activate the 25th amendment to the constitution, which relates to the impeachment of the president.

The 25th amendment stipulates that in the event of the death, resignation or removal of the president, the vice president will run the country.

Trump refuses to attend the inauguration

Meanwhile, CNN quoted advisers in the White House as saying that President Trump never considers resigning, nor does he believe that he has made any mistake.

Trump had said in a tweet that he would not attend the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden on the twentieth of this month.

Trump also said in a previous tweet that the tens of millions of Americans who voted for him and America first and for the slogan "Make America great again," will have a tremendous voice in the future.

Trump added that they would not be disrespected or unfairly treated in any way.

As calls for his ouster escalated on Thursday, and his senior staff threatened to resign from the administration, Trump released a video clip in which he denounced the violence that claimed the lives of 5 people.

With the video clip, the Republican president appeared closer than ever before to admitting that he lost the presidential elections on the third of last November and with a conciliatory tone, promising to ensure a smooth transition to a "new administration."

Democratic President-elect Biden is to be sworn in on January 20.

A call to resign

Amid pressure from Democrats and some Republicans to impeach Trump or prosecute him in parliament, former Secretary of State Colin Powell said that demands for impeachment and a parliamentary trial will take time, and added, "I hope Trump will do what Nixon did and resign," referring to former US President Richard Nixon.

And he continued in an interview with NBC that one of them should go to Trump and tell him that the matter is over and that the plane is waiting for him outside, and in this case he will not only resign, but will block the way for those who made this storm (referring to Supporters of Trump stormed Congress on Wednesday) to cancel the election.

Powell - who belongs to the Republican Party - said that Trump should feel the shame, and turn this shame into resignation as soon as possible, and we have a vice president who can lead the country to the rest of this state.

Penny refused

However, Business Insider reported that Pence's advisor was against resorting to the 25th amendment to the constitution to impeach the president.

The website added that Pence and his team members are also concerned that resorting to a parliamentary trial could lead to more chaos and partisan divisions in the country, as well as jeopardize Pence's political aspirations to run for the White House in 2024.

With Trump's departure date approaching in less than two weeks, it is not clear if there will be time to complete the impeachment process, but if he is questioned in the House of Representatives, he will theoretically face a trial in the Republican-controlled Senate set to be on recess until Jan.19 This January.

Aides to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell did not specify what he would do if the House of Representatives approved the impeachment articles.

The Democratic-dominated House of Representatives approved Trump questioning in December 2019 in connection with his pressure on the President of Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden, but the Senate acquitted him in February 2020.

Only two presidents in US history have been held accountable, and neither has ever faced impeachment again.

For his part, US President-elect Joe Biden said that the storming of the Congress was the worst day in the history of the United States.

Biden blamed President Trump for what happened, saying that he had despised the law, the constitution and institutions throughout his four years in power.

He described the participants in the raid as rebels, thugs and terrorists.
