Aurich (dpa / lni) - The process of defective disc prostheses and allegations of corruption against a doctor in East Friesland has burst again.

The new start of the main hearing at the Aurich regional court planned for next Monday was canceled with a view to the health of the 56-year-old and the current pandemic situation, as court spokesman Stefan Büürma said on Friday.

At first it was not known when the process would be continued.

The dismissed head of spinal surgery at the Leer Clinic is on trial because he is said to have collected unauthorized money for the preferred use of implants from a certain manufacturer.

The irregularities at the Leer Clinic came to light after defective implants from a British manufacturer were recalled.

The clinic management had checked the doctor's business emails and came across commission bills.

The clinic then called in the police.

The process had already started in November 2019, but it was canceled at the beginning of 2020 because the doctor came to a clinic with a heart disease and, according to the official certificate, was not able to negotiate.

The procedure should now start over after recovery.

In a total of 74 cases, the proceedings concern the acceptance of benefits and corruption in particularly difficult cases.

Since many of the implants that were used turned out to be defective, there is another lawsuit pending before the local court in Leer for bodily harm against the man.
