US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi said yesterday that she discussed with the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff about taking precautionary measures to ensure that President Donald Trump cannot use the nuclear code and carry out hostilities or order a nuclear strike while he remains in power.

Pelosi said in a letter to her colleagues, "The situation with this dysfunctional president could not be more dangerous, and we must do everything we can to protect the American people from their unbalanced aggression against our country and our democracy."

Pelosi confirmed yesterday that Congress will "act" if President Donald Trump does not voluntarily step down.

A source familiar with the matter said there were discussions in the White House about Trump leaving Washington on January 19.

The source said he was expected to travel to his resort in Florida.
