Schwerin / Berlin (dpa / mv) - The corona vaccinations with the second vaccine approved in Europe, that of the US manufacturer Moderna, can begin in Germany next week.

A spokesman for the Federal Ministry of Health announced on Friday at the request of the German Press Agency in Berlin that the first deliveries of the preparation would be distributed to the federal states.

According to a list provided by the dpa, 1200 vaccine doses are initially going to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

Further deliveries are to take place every two weeks, with increasing quantities.

The EU Commission approved the Moderna vaccine on Wednesday on the recommendation of the EMA drug authority.

Germany is to receive over 50 million of the more than 160 million Moderna cans ordered across the EU.

In the first quarter, due to the initially limited production capacities, only just under two million Moderna cans are expected in Germany.
