Erding (dpa / lby) - With stolen customer data, a suspected pair of fraudsters is said to have stolen discounts of almost 50,000 euros.

Now the police in Erding in Upper Bavaria caught the two in the act.

A police spokesman said on Friday that the couple, aged 43 and 47, repeatedly exchanged a voucher at a terminal in a supermarket and then wanted to be paid out at the cash register.

The two had apparently been doing this for weeks.

Previously, the couple had access to numerous online customer accounts of the discount provider.

How this succeeded and how many people are affected by the theft is still being determined, said the spokesman.

The provider of the bonus system had reported to the police that an unusually large number of discounts had recently been redeemed.

According to previous knowledge, the damage amounts to around 47,000 euros.

The police pointed out that users often forgot passwords that were too easy.
