Hanover (dpa / lni) - After the slow start of the corona vaccinations in Lower Saxony, the state is catching up in a nationwide comparison.

7,975 people were vaccinated on Thursday - more than in any other state on the day.

That comes from data from the Robert Koch Institute on Friday.

A total of 32 170 Lower Saxony have been vaccinated so far to protect against Covid-19.

In terms of the vaccination quota, Lower Saxony has now left two states behind with a value of 4.0 vaccinations per 1000 inhabitants, Saxony (3.8) and Thuringia (3.7).

At the beginning of the week, Lower Saxony was still the rear.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania continues to have by far the highest value with 15.0.

The state government justified the slow start of vaccination with the fact that the vaccination centers did not all start work at the same time.

The first employees of the Lower Saxony university clinics in Hanover and Göttingen were also vaccinated on Thursday.
