It is students in eighth and ninth grade at Norrstrandsskolan, Rudsskolan, Ilandaskolan, Mariebergsskolan and Hultsbergsskolan who will partly receive their teaching at a distance.

The decision will be formally made in the Children and Youth Committee on Monday, and will since the government has given the green light for distance education also in primary school to reduce the spread of corona infection.

- We have started from the individual schools' conditions, number of students and size of the premises, says Maria Kjällström, school director in Karlstad municipality.

Students in eighth and ninth grade

Students will alternate teaching on site at school but teaching at a distance.

The decision only applies to upper secondary school grades eight and nine.

The seventh graders continue to go to school as usual.

- The principals will set a schedule for how many people will be in school every day.

The decision is valid from Monday to January 24 and will then be evaluated.

What problems do you see with distance education?

- Yes, it is the concern about what happens to children and young people who grow up during the pandemic.

School is an important place where they can come to disconnect thoughts and worries.

That is why we only introduce distance education for parts of the time, says Maria Kjällström.

The special primary school and students at Frödingskolan, Vålbergsskolan and Nyeds skola are not affected by the distance education.
