Copenhagen (dpa) - Denmark tightened its entry restrictions for all countries in the world.

Danes are now advised not to travel abroad due to concerns about mutated variants of the corona virus and the corona situation worldwide, including business trips.

Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod announced this on Friday afternoon at a press conference in Copenhagen.

The message is very clear that one should not leave the country.

Danes abroad do not have to hurry to return to the country.

At the same time, only people are allowed into the country who have a valid reason for this and who have a negative corona test that is no more than 24 hours old, as Justice Minister Nick Hækkerup said.

Visits from close relatives are valid reasons.

Other reasons previously considered sufficient - such as studying or staying as an au pair - will be temporarily deleted.

According to Hækkerup, exceptions should apply to residents of the border regions in Germany and Sweden as well as goods transport and transit traffic.

The tightened travel restrictions apply from Sunday and, like other corona measures in Denmark, initially until January 17th.

The near future will be crucial in reducing the spread of the infection, said Kofod.

Ultimately, they are particularly concerned that more contagious virus variants are being introduced into Denmark.

The corona mutation, which first appeared in England, has already been detected a few dozen times in the country.
