The marketing authorizations for vaccines on French territory against Covid-19 are continuing.

The High Authority for Health (HAS) gave the green light, Friday, January 8, to the vaccine developed by Moderna.

It can be used "in people 18 years of age and over, (...) because of its efficacy and its overall satisfactory tolerance profile".

This vaccine, which received marketing authorization from the European Union on Wednesday, thus becomes the second to be used in France after that of BioNTech / Pfizer, which had the green light from the HAS on December 24.

The clinical trial carried out by the American laboratory concluded that it is 94% effective in preventing symptomatic forms of the Covid-19 disease, the health authority recalled.

Moderna: similarities with Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine

Proven efficacy

on a number of symptomatic cases

▪ Messenger RNA technology

▪ 2 doses

▪ Satisfactory tolerance profiles

▪ Missing data: asymptomatic, effects on virus transmission

The "vaccine strategy" already announced (starting with the populations most at risk of severe form and those most exposed to the risk of infection) remains valid for this vaccine, adds the opinion of the HAS.

The vaccine from the American laboratory can be used "including" in the "oldest" people, she considers, because if the data in the more than 75 years are "limited at this stage", those reported in the over 65 show an efficiency of 86.4%.

Like the BioNTech / Pfizer vaccine, Moderna's vaccine relies on the administration of two doses.

For the latter, a "period of 28 days between the two vaccine doses must be respected", recalls the HAS, stressing that it is a "minimum threshold".

The first deliveries of the Moderna vaccine "should be made in the coming days", at the latest "second half of January", assured Friday morning on BFMTV Professor Alain Fischer, the "Mr. vaccine" appointed by the government.
