The Covid-19 has already killed 200,000 people in Brazil.
This symbolic milestone was crossed Thursday, January 7.
The country has nearly eight million confirmed cases.
But a silver lining has appeared: the Sinovac company's vaccine is at least 78 percent effective, according to the São Paulo government, which is a partner of the Chinese company.
Vaccination could start before the end of January.

After several weeks of suspense and two postponements, the governor of São Paulo, Joao Doria, announced that the CoronaVac vaccine
from the Sinovac laboratory
was 78% effective, and even 100% effective in the most serious cases.
The results of the clinical trials were hailed as a victory.
“
This is a historic moment of which we are proud.
Today is the day of hope.
Today is the day of life.
The São Paulo vaccine is the vaccine from Brazil,
”said Joao Doria.
Brazil is the most bereaved country in the world after the United States, and the third most affected country in number of confirmed cases, after the United States and India.
But his vaccination program has fallen behind schedule.
We must now go quickly.
São Paulo will use an emergency procedure to have this vaccine approved by the drug agency.
President Jair Bolsonaro, who viewed this “
Chinese vaccine
”
with a very negative view
(“
The haste for the vaccine
is not justified
”, he also declared on December 19), has already ordered 100 million doses.
It is also counting on a partnership with Astra Zenica and the University of Oxford to ensure its vaccination program.
