Andernach (dpa / lrs) - After a brutal attack on police officers in Andernach, the 30-year-old suspect comes to court.

As the public prosecutor in Koblenz announced on Friday, it has brought charges of dangerous bodily harm and attempted manslaughter, among other things.

The 30-year-old is said to have run up to a 36-year-old officer in an argument with police officers in front of a restaurant in October 2020 and, according to the prosecutor, "kicked him on the head with his shoed foot with full force".

He had accepted the death of the police officer approvingly.

The 36-year-old officer was seriously injured in the attack and was being treated in the intensive care unit of a hospital, the public prosecutor announced in October 2020.

In addition, the 30-year-old is said to have hit a 36-year-old policewoman and another policeman in the face.

The officer is said to have suffered a broken nose, among other things.

The 30-year-old German was initially able to flee after the conflict, but was arrested a little later.

In addition, the officers arrested a 29-year-old who is also said to have been involved in the dispute.

The public prosecutor's office has brought charges against him for resistance to law enforcement officers and dangerous physical harm.

He is also said to have beaten the police officers and pushed them against a wall.

Two other parties are under investigation on suspicion of resisting law enforcement officers.

The attack in October 2020 was preceded by a fight in front of a restaurant in Andernach.

According to the public prosecutor's office, the two suspects, together with the two other men, initially verbally disturbed the police investigation.

After the police used a taser, the situation escalated.

As the police spokesman from Andernach said at the time, there was an entry in the social media after the fact in which the unconscious police officer was shown and mocked.

The incident had caused horror in Rhineland-Palatinate.

The Rhineland-Palatinate Prime Minister Malu Dreyer (SPD) announced in October: "The act itself, but also the mockery of the particularly seriously injured police officer in the social media makes you stunned."

The regional court has not yet decided on opening the main hearing.

The prosecution said the charges were brought in at the end of December.
