While a state of emergency has been declared in Tokyo and other prefectures for the new coronavirus countermeasures, the three prefectures of Osaka, Hyogo, and Kyoto have decided to request the government to issue a declaration on the 9th.

The government plans to analyze the infection situation and work closely with the respective governors to determine the response.

While a state of emergency was declared in Tokyo and other prefectures, the governors of Osaka, Hyogo, and Kyoto were online with the Minister of Economic Revitalization Nishimura on the 9th following the rapid spread of the new coronavirus infection. We will meet and request the issuance of a declaration.

On the night of the 8th, Prime Minister Suga met with Minister Nishimura and Minister of Health, Labor and Welfare Tamura at the Prime Minister's Office and received a report on the status of infection in Osaka Prefecture and other areas.

The government will continue to analyze the infection situation and work closely with the respective governors to make decisions based on the opinions of experts.

Meanwhile, the government and the ruling and opposition parties are continuing discussions on how to respond to businesses that do not respond to requests to shorten business hours in preparation for the revision of the Act on Special Measures Against Coronavirus.

Regarding penalties, which is one of the focal points, the government and the ruling party impose fines as administrative penalties and adjust the amount to be different depending on whether or not there is a state of emergency.

However, some opposition parties have shown opposition and caution against penalties, and next week, the government and the ruling party will consolidate the content, including the specific amount of fines, and then renew the opposition party. We would like to discuss and promptly submit the revised bill to the ordinary Diet session convened on the 18th of this month.
