Discussions between the government and policymakers of the ruling and opposition parties over the revision of the law related to measures against the new coronavirus were held in the Diet on the afternoon of the 8th, following the 5th of this month.



Among these, the government is considering amending the Act on Special Measures for Countermeasures against the New Coronavirus to impose penalties as a response to businesses that do not respond to requests for leave, and in addition, infected people are treated for accommodation. He explained that he is considering amending the Infectious Diseases Control Law in order to impose penalties, as there are a number of cases in which he does not respond to the requests of local governments.



In addition, he made it clear that he is considering introducing criminal punishment when amending the Infectious Diseases Control Law.



In response, the Liberal Democratic Party has indicated that criminal punishment is necessary because of the danger of spreading the infection, while the Constitutional Democratic Party has taken a cautious stance that it is unclear whether it will be understood by the public.



The government and parties will meet again next week on the 13th to discuss amendments to the Special Measures Law and the Infectious Diseases Law.
