New lines to move more easily and modified prices for the most precarious travelers.

This year 2021 will be punctuated by novelties on the Lyon public transport network.

Changes and evolutions put in place for some from these first days of January.

20 Minutes

takes stock of what awaits TCL users in the coming months.

A second express line between the south-west of Lyon and the hypercentre

Fifteen minutes.

This is the time it takes now to connect Irigny to the Lyon peninsula.

On Monday, the express line 15 E was indeed put into service between the Yvours station and the Place Bellecour, without an intermediate stop.

This new bus link, intended to offer a real alternative to the private car, runs from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on its own integral site on the M7 metropolitan road (former A7), which has recently been dedicated to dynamic carpooling.

It thus completes line 15, which links Bellecour to Irigny by irrigating the municipalities of Mulatière, Oullins and Pierre-Bénite.

This is the second line of this type to be put into service in the metropolis, after the launch last August of the 10E, an express link which connects in less than twenty minutes the Porte-de-Lyon (Dardilly) to the station of Vaise via the M6 metropolitan route (A6).

Two new tram links

In ten years, tram use has increased by 80% according to Sytral, with 365,000 daily trips.

In 2021, the year in which the tram celebrates its 20th anniversary, two new lines will be put into service in the first quarter.

"The T7 connecting Vaulx-en-Velin-La Soie to Décines-OL Vallée in 10 minutes will strengthen the service to East Lyon and offer nearly 25% additional capacity to all travelers from the line T3, on their common section ”, indicates the Sutral, manager of TCL.

Line T2, extended to Hôtel de Région-Montrochet, is intended to improve public transport services in the Confluence district.

A train is scheduled every two minutes between Perrache and Confluence, ie an additional capacity of 50% on this axis.

Other projects will follow since by the end of the mandate, in 2026, Sytral has undertaken to build four new lines (25 km more), starting with the T8 between Part-Dieu and Bellecour and T9 between La Soie and La Doua / Charpennes.

More places in metro B and A

If line B users still have to wait until the end of 2023 to connect Oullins to Saint-Genis-Laval by metro, they should benefit from an improvement in the offer starting this spring.

The automation of the line, announced a long time ago, will be gradually implemented, with 30 new driverless trainsets.

This should allow a 30% increase in capacity, then 50% by 2023 when the extension to Saint-Genis is commissioned.

In turn, metro A users should in turn see the capacity of the line reinforced by 12% from this summer, thanks to the redeployment of part of the old trains of line B, adds Sytral in the presentation document of its 2021-2026 mandate plan.

Lower prices for some users

This year, TCL tariffs, which have been steadily increasing in recent years, are not increasing.

However, since January 1, two subscriptions reserved for the most insecure travelers have been offered.

The first, free, is particularly reserved for people benefiting from RSA and their dependents, beneficiaries of AAH or ASI, visually impaired people or asylum seekers.

A subscription reduced to 10 euros per month has been created for non-taxable users with a Pôle Emploi allowance, high school and college scholarship holders or even unemployed 18 to 24 years old.

New tariffs have also come into force since the change to 2021 on the Rhônexpress, this tram that serves Lyon airport from Part-Dieu.

But only two categories of users benefit: 12-25 year olds and travelers who go to Saint-Ex station to take a train.

From now on, the trip on board Rhônexpress costs them 10 euros against 16.30 euros until then, and the return trip 19 euros instead of 28.30 euros.
