Mannheim (dpa / lsw) - Third division soccer team SV Waldhof Mannheim starts the second part of the season with full batteries and vigor.

After a short break, the Mannheimers will meet SC Verl on Friday (7:00 p.m.) and after three partly hefty defeats at the end of last year they want to stop the negative trend.

"We're hot and physically in good shape," said coach Patrick Glöckner on Thursday before the game against the promoted team.

The top performers Jesper Verlaat, Max Christiansen and Marco Schuster are still injured.

Vice-captain Schuster has been in team training since Tuesday after a groin operation.

"He needs another week and a half before we see him on the pitch again," said Glöckner.

The coach believes that his young team has learned a lot, which was particularly weak on the defensive before the short break.

"The boys now know how tough the league is and that you can't switch off for a second."
