Potsdam (dpa / bb) - In order to vaccinate more people in nursing homes against the corona virus, the German Red Cross Brandenburg (DRK) is sending more mobile vaccination teams.

From next week up to three teams will be active in Prignitz, the eastern Uckermark, in Eberswalde, Frankfurt (Oder), Oranienburg and Brandenburg / Havel, as DRK spokeswoman Marie-Christin Lux said on Thursday.

"We are currently in the process of creating the teams."

As many facilities as possible should be approached.

By Thursday morning, 136 of around 300 old people's homes in the country have registered for appointments for January using the DRK's online tool.

Around 24,400 vaccine doses were ordered for it.

As two vaccinations are required each time, around 12,000 residents and employees in nursing homes are to be vaccinated.

Nationwide, 8182 people in Brandenburg were vaccinated against the corona virus by Wednesday.

Although around 3,000 Brandenburgers were vaccinated within one day - the previous day there were around 5,400 vaccinations - according to data from the Robert Koch Institute, the state remains in third-last place in the nationwide comparison for vaccinations per 1000 inhabitants (3 , 2).

Whether the numbers also include the vaccinations in the two vaccination centers in Cottbus and Potsdam remained open at first.

The two centers have been open since Tuesday.
