Lübeck (dpa / lno) - The Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival (SHMF) will increasingly take place in the open air this year due to the corona pandemic.

Two thirds of the concerts are planned as open-air events, said SHMF spokeswoman Laura Hamdorf on Thursday.

As a result of this and the hygiene concept that has already been tested in 2020, the aim is to ensure the greatest possible safety for the public and artists.

The festival planners can fall back on around 40 new venues that they have discovered since last year.

There have been no cancellations by artists so far, said Hamdorf.

Most of them are happy about the prospect of being able to perform in front of an audience again.

The festival is to open on July 3rd and 4th with two concerts in the Lübeck music and congress hall.

The season runs until August 29th.

The complete festival program is to be presented on February 25th at an online press conference.

Then the general advance booking begins.

Advance sales for selected SHMF concerts have been running since the beginning of December 2020.

According to Hamdorf, it got off to a surprisingly positive start.

The composer's retrospective this year is dedicated to Franz Schubert (1797 - 1828).
