On Thursday, Region Sörmland issued a recommendation to the county's municipalities that they should conduct distance education for their upper secondary students.
- The background to the recommendation is the epidemiological situation with a large and increasing spread of infection.
Distance or distance education means that there is a greater opportunity for physical distance for staff and the students who may need to stay on the school premises, says infection control doctor Signar Mäkitalo.
Two weeks
On Thursday, the education committee in Eskilstuna made a decision to apply distance education for high school students.
- I view the decision positively, which will mean continuity in the beginning of the semester.
At the end of the autumn term, we had many quick decisions about closures, which we will hopefully avoid now, says Hans Ringström.
Distance education will be valid from Monday 11 January and two weeks onwards, until 24 January.
Affected students and guardians will receive additional information on how they are affected via the communication tool Vklass.
Get school food
The school principal assures that the students, despite the decision, will be offered school food, but it is currently unclear how it will be distributed at each school.
Students with special support will be given the opportunity to receive physical education and will not be affected by the decision to the same extent as other students.
