The Paris Stock Exchange rose 0.36% at the opening Thursday in the wake of a resounding victory for U.S. Democrats in Georgia's senatorial elections as investors ignore major unrest on Capitol Hill where pro-Trump protesters have sown chaos.

The star Parisian index, the CAC 40, gained 20.44 points to 5,551.04 points at 9:05 am, the index having opened a few minutes late.

The CAC 40 had taken 1.19% Wednesday at the close.
