The proportion of rechargeable cars is rising sharply.

From October 2019 to the same month in 2020, sales increased by 113 percent, according to statistics from the industry association Bil Sweden.

In one of the country's major newspapers, it is clear from the car ads that something is happening.

Five municipalities

SVT Nyheter Öst has chosen to look at what it looks like with charging points at the public housing companies in the five largest municipalities in our distribution area.

- Today we have about 30 charging stations.

Partly separate for tenants, partly public places where anyone can charge.

And these are the latter we will invest in in the future, says Thomas Gustafsson, head of new production at Hyresbostäder in Norrköping.

Demand is rising - slowly

For housing companies, it costs more to build parking spaces with charging capacity than without.

And so far the demand has not been so great, but it is about to change.

- We encourage tenants to report if they are interested in charging.

Then we build based on what the demand looks like and where it is possible, says Lars Åke Landén, CEO of Bostadsstiftelsen Platen in Motala.

No profit

Several of the companies believe that at present it does not make any profit to set up charging points on existing car parks, but they see it more as a service to the tenants.

Some also work with electricity companies and or parking companies to solve the payment for electricity consumption.

- The tenants want to pay for what they consume.

We have solved it through a collaboration with a parking company, says Lars Åke Landén.

- Now the demand is at a low level, but we see that it is increasing and will also expand our supply in the future, says Thomas Gustafsson.
