Mor Thiam, a student, still remembers the riots he observed the night before in the medina district, in the heart of Dakar: “

At 9 pm, we saw men come out in front of the police.

The police threw tear gas.

They were all in the streets of the Medina.

It's not easy to get home at 9 p.m.

But I think it's a health issue.

The state wants to protect us.

"

The day after these clashes, the Minister of the Interior Antoine Félix Diome assured during a press conference that the Senegalese of the regions of Dakar and Thiès observed the curfew.

There were a few demonstrations, but order returned after the interventions of the police,

" he said.

Eyes tired, Ahmed Camara demonstrated until midnight the day before and ensures that it "

Owner of a fast-food restaurant in the Medina district, he does not understand this measure taken by the authorities: “

We demonstrated because we are fed up with the curfew.

We are really fed up.

We work at night because we are the father of a family ”

.

Ahmed Camara is determined not to respect the curfew for the next few days.

As of January 7, Senegal has 220 new cases of Covid-19, for a total of 20,376 cases declared positive, including 438 who have died since the start of the pandemic.
