07 January 2021 "Today's assault on the Capitol is unacceptable": in three furious tweets, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo condemns the events in Washington.

"Lawlessness and unrest - here or around the world - are always unacceptable. I have traveled to many countries and I always support the right of every human being to protest peacefully for their beliefs."

"But violence, putting the safety of others at risk, including those who have the task of guaranteeing safety for all of us, is intolerable both at home and abroad," Pompeo emphasizes.

The head of US diplomacy asks: "Let us quickly do justice to the criminals who have engaged in this revolt."

"America - concludes Pompeo - is better than what we saw today in a place where I served as a member of Congress and where I saw democracy firsthand".

The storming of the US Capitol today is unacceptable.

Lawlessness and rioting - here or around the world - is always unacceptable.

I have traveled to many countries and always support the right of every human being to protest peacefully for their beliefs and their causes.
