As people infected with the new coronavirus often refuse to respond to requests from local governments for accommodation or refuse to investigate health centers, the government will convene a regular Diet session this month to improve its effectiveness. The policy is to revise the Infectious Diseases Control Law.

As a countermeasure against the new coronavirus, health centers around the world are requesting infected people to cooperate in investigating information and infection routes and medical treatment at homes and hotels, but there are a number of cases of refusal. ..

For this reason, the government said that it was necessary to improve the effectiveness of these measures, and after amending the Infectious Diseases Control Law and newly establishing provisions that would be the basis for prefectural governors to request cooperation regarding accommodation treatment, etc. If we do not respond, we are considering measures such as being able to recommend hospitalization at our own expense.

We will also consider whether penalties should be imposed for violations of hospitalization recommendations, refusal of health center investigations, or false declarations.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Kato said on the 7th, "We would like to proceed with the examination to submit the bill to the ordinary Diet session while listening to the opinions of the ruling and opposition parties along with the revision of the Act on Special Measures Against Coronavirus."

The government is rushing to coordinate with the ruling and opposition parties, aiming to submit an amendment to the ordinary Diet session convened on the 18th of this month.
