Nuremberg (dpa / lby) - The Nuremberg Vesper Church is postponed due to the Corona lockdown.

It should actually open from January 17th to the end of February.

"Under lockdown conditions we cannot expect our volunteers to do this," said Pastor Bernd Reuther from the Protestant parish in Nuremberg-Lichtenhof on Thursday.

Normally the Vesper churches open their church space in the cold season in order to bring together very different people for lunch, concerts and other activities.

But this year the three Bavarian Vesper churches in Nuremberg, Schweinfurt and Memmingen have to think about something new because of the corona pandemic.

The Nuremberg Vesper Church now wants to open on February 7th - provided the lockdown is then over.

"That was a plan that we had in mind," said Reuther.

This year, however, the cooperation among the guests will be limited.

Lunch should only be available to take away.

The volunteers will serve the warm meal in booths in front of the church.

Only 100 people are allowed to attend the opening service.

Concerts, theater and other cultural events are only possible in front of a smaller audience and with an entrance ticket - if at all, said Reuther.

There will be no free haircuts like in previous years, advice offers such as application training and family help only with an appointment.

In Memmingen, too, the Vesper Church is reacting creatively to the Corona crisis in the second year of its existence.

This will be on the road for three weeks from February 28th with a food truck that drives to five Protestant parishes.

Bavaria's oldest Vesper church in Schweinfurt plans to open this year on February 25 for just under two weeks - but only virtually, as Deacon Norbert Holzheid explained.

There will therefore not be a warm lunch.

What will be offered on the Internet instead, should be determined soon.
