January 07, 2021Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel will become the first country to end the coronavirus epidemic by vaccinating all citizens over the age of 16 by April.

"The deal we made with Pfizer will allow us to vaccinate Israeli citizens over the age of 16 by the end of March or earlier," the prime minister of the Jewish state said in a televised address to the nation.

Israel kicked off the vaccination campaign with Pfizer / Biontech doses on December 20.

A second batch is scheduled for Sunday.

"Israel will give an example to the world of how to vaccinate the whole country ... Israel will share the statistics ... so that they choose a path to victory over the coronavirus," Netanyahu said.

The prime minister said yesterday he had reached an agreement with another vaccine manufacturer, Moderna, to secure millions more doses.

The first batch of doses of Moderna arrived in Israel last Thursday.

The operation - added Netanyahu, explaining that he had spoken again with Pfizer president Albert Burla - was called "return to life".
