Yougov's opinion poll on how people react to the storming of the Capitol shows that six out of ten voters think the event is a threat to democracy.

Broken down on party sympathy, however, it looks different among the 1,148 people Yougov asked.

Forty-five percent of Republican voters polled support the storm, while nearly all Democratic voters polled oppose it.

Among those polled who believe that there was election fraud to an extent sufficient to affect the election result, 56 percent support the congressional storm.

Despite a relatively small basis in the survey that was conducted quickly before the storming of the congress, Lars Trädgårdh believes that it is an indication of what many have already pointed out, a strongly divided society.

- It indicates that the polarization in the US is very strong, it gives a feeling of concern for the future.

People live with completely different views on what happened in the election and also what happened last night, which is even more shocking, says Lars Trädgårdh in SVT's broadcast.

"Tendency to distrust the government"

- It is a trend we see not only in the US but also here in Sweden, you go for information in your own social media instead of looking for correct facts, says the professor.

To understand the development in the United States, it is important to ensure what the political history of the country has looked like, he says.

- We must remember that the United States has experienced many crises before.

The USA started through a revolution and a freedom struggle, there is a long tendency to be suspicious of the state taste, says Trädgårdh.
