Passionate about Pokémon cards, a man would have gone so far as to set up a scam in Japan.

Police have arrested a 43-year-old man on suspicion of faking ice cream sticks to win trading cards in a game contest.

The suspect allegedly engraved "You won a Gari-Pokémon card" on at least 25 sticks in a competition organized by the ice cream brand Garigari-kun.

The company was then amazed that one person obtained so many winning sticks.

The fake sticks "were engraved with care," said the public television channel NHK.

An investigation has been opened and the police intend to carefully study the technique used by the alleged forger.

According to the Garigari-kun company, “fake winning ice cream sticks” could still be in circulation after being sold on the Internet.
