Berlin (AP) - Captain Paul Drux from the handball Bundesliga club Füchse Berlin sees the handball World Cup in Egypt as a distraction from the ongoing corona crisis.

"If we help people to a piece of normalcy, we have already won," said Drux in an interview with the "Bild" newspaper (Thursday).

How the national team will perform at the World Cup is currently difficult for him to assess: "I have no idea which team is in what shape."

The 25-year-old from Gummersbach asked himself whether the tournament had to be at this point in time.

"It is probably even safer to play handball in the World Cup bubble than in the Bundesliga," speculated Drux.

The national player is not afraid of being infected.

"I trust the world federation," said the backcourt player of the capital club.

The World Cup starts on January 13th.

Two days later, the German selection will play their first game against Uruguay.

The game is played in Cairo, New Kapital, Alexandria and Gizeh.
