After the
Capitol attack
, Facebook fears that Donald Trump will use his platform to call on his supporters for further violence in the United States.
“
The risk is just too great,
” writes Mark Zuckerberg.
Facebook therefore decides to ban Trump from Facebook and Instagram for at least two weeks until the official transition of power to Joe Biden in 13 days.
“
The shocking events of the past 24 hours clearly demonstrate that Donald Trump intends to use his remaining time in power to undermine the peaceful transition of power to his elected successor Joe Biden.
This is what Mark Zuckerberg himself wrote in his press release.
"
His decision to use his platform to endorse rather than condemn the acts of his supporters on Capitol Hill legitimately shocked Americans,
" continues the CEO of Facebook, thus announcing two absolutely new measures, the second being the deletion of statements posted Wednesday by Donald Trump because “
their effect and perhaps their intention,
Zuckerberg says,
was to provoke more violence
”.
The Facebook dike is therefore starting to break.
So far the social network has always refused to censor the president and his allies who, because of their status, benefited from a kind of exemption from the rules of use.
Same thing with Twitter.
Since Wednesday, Donald Trump no longer has access to his favorite social network and at least for 24 hours.
