Hanover (dpa / lni) - The state of Lower Saxony wants to allow the municipalities to choose whether or not to adopt the restriction of freedom of movement in corona hotspots decided by the federal and state governments.

This emerges from a draft for the new Corona regulation that is available to the German Press Agency.

It says literally: "The local authorities can (...) limit the radius of movement of every person to 15 kilometers around the place of residence", if the seven-day value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants rises above 200.

It is not clear from the draft whether the place of residence refers to the private address or the municipal boundary.

In particular, trips for “medical, psychosocial or veterinary treatment” are cited as valid reasons for leaving the radius.

Travel or day trips are explicitly not included.

The stricter corona rules, which also include a limitation of contacts to one household and one other person, should apply from Sunday.

The draft of the state ordinance is currently being voted on, so changes are still possible.
