The US Congress resumed the ratification session for the election of Democrat Joe Biden as President of the United States, hours after supporters of outgoing President Donald Trump stormed the building, smashed its windows and caused chaos.

Republican and Democratic leaders have condemned "criminal behavior," and stressed that chaos will not terrorize Congress, nor will it impede American democracy.

Hundreds of Trump supporters stormed the Congress building in Washington, DC, after he called them to go to the building to prevent what he described as election theft.

Washington Attorney General Karl Racine urged President Donald Trump today to call on his supporters to stop and desist from their actions "immediately."
