Hanover (dpa / lni) - The Protestant and Catholic churches in Lower Saxony are participating in a nationwide campaign to meet Judaism.

Questions about the relationship between Jews and Christians are taken up on 13 posters for the campaign “# or: Jewish and Christian - closer than you think”, as the two churches announced on Thursday.

The campaign is a contribution by the churches to the festival year 1700 years of Jewish life in Germany, which is supported by the German Bishops' Conference and the Evangelical Church in Germany.

What do Jews celebrate in December, how are Easter and Passover related and why does the year 5782 begin in September - these and similar questions are taken up on the posters that are distributed in showcases at churches and on social media.

"With the campaign we want to encourage people to see diversity as an enrichment," declared the Protestant regional bishop Ralf Meister von Hannover and the Osnabrück bishop Franz-Josef Bode.

It is about a respectful and dignified relationship between the two religions.

"As Christians we still have a lot to catch up on here."

The posters are intended to show that especially at church festivals, Christianity's roots in Judaism become clear.

In addition, the campaign is intended to encourage people to perceive the relationships between the two religions in everyday life and to draw attention to current Jewish practice.

At the same time, the aim is to make a contribution to the fight against anti-Semitism and increasing agitation and conspiracy myths against Jewish people in Lower Saxony as well.
