Chinanews.com, Seoul, January 7 (Reporter Zeng Nai) The 16-month-old South Korean girl Zheng In was suspected of being abused by her adoptive parents and died, causing huge controversy.

Zheng Ren was adopted 7 months after his birth.

In October last year, 16-month-old Zheng In died in a hospital in Seoul and was diagnosed with ruptured organs and multiple fractures.

According to South Korean media reports, Zheng Ren had visited a doctor many times before. The doctor judged that the girl had suffered long-term abuse based on bruising and nutritional status and called the police several times. However, the police and child protection agencies determined that no evidence of domestic violence was found after investigation.

The incident caused an uproar until the girl died in the hospital.

Recently, a large number of people have launched a "Sorry Zheng Ren" relay on the Internet, demanding a thorough investigation of the incident.

In January, the Supreme Committee of the Democratic Party of Korea’s ruling party held a meeting and stated that it was planning to enact relevant laws to raise the sentencing standards for child abuse.

The National Forces Party, the largest opposition party, has publicly stated that it requires to find out the truth and severely punish those responsible.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in also stated recently that the incident was "sorry" and called for strengthening supervision and management of child adoption procedures.

At present, Zheng In’s adoptive mother has been arrested and prosecuted on suspicion of child abuse and death. The trial will be held in Seoul in mid-January; Zheng In’s adoptive father is prosecuted without detention for allowing her child to be abused.
