Erfurt (dpa / th) - Many employees of care providers want to be vaccinated against Corona, according to an estimate by the Thuringian regional office of the Federal Association of Private Providers of Social Services (bpa).

"A clear majority of very old people in need of care and employees are ready to be vaccinated," said chairwoman Margit Benkenstein when asked by the dpa.

However, she admitted that not everyone wanted to be vaccinated.

The reasons for this are diverse and not necessarily only related to the corona virus.

It is important that employees have the opportunity to receive the vaccine through their employers.

Previously, a statement by Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (left) had led to discussions about the role model function of medical and nursing staff.

He had told MDR Thuringia that only a third of hospital employees in Thuringia were ready to be vaccinated against the virus.

Exact figures on the vaccination readiness in Thuringia are not yet available.

Mobile vaccination teams have started giving the vaccine in homes.

According to the Thuringian Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, around 640 people in Thuringian nursing homes had been vaccinated against Corona by Wednesday afternoon.

Overall, according to the Robert Koch Institute, Thuringia has been lagging behind when it comes to vaccination rates in a national comparison.

However, there are also delays in reporting vaccinations.

Benkenstein estimates that the mobile vaccination teams should be able to visit all nursing homes and the larger facilities for outpatient assisted living for people in need of care in Thuringia in the next two to three months.

"Every vaccinated employee and every vaccinated resident reduces the risk in the facility and for the families of residents and employees."

In order to be able to vaccinate at all in the homes, intensive preparations are necessary.

For example, the consent of carers would have to be obtained for residents who are no longer able to decide whether they want to be vaccinated or not.

It is important to communicate to the mobile teams in advance how many people in which facilities would like to be vaccinated so that no vaccine is lost.

With around 150 nursing services caring for around 6,800 patients and more than 150 inpatient care facilities with around 8,500 places, the bpa represents almost every fourth care facility in Thuringia.
