Hanover (dpa / lni) - Economics Minister Bernd Althusmann (CDU) expects Lower Saxony to have "a large wave of bankruptcies in the first quarter of the year" because of the Corona crisis.

He told the radio station "Antenne Niedersachsen" on Thursday.

That will "still challenge us quite a bit".

That is why the state campaigned heavily with the federal government to significantly increase the down payments for aid to companies.

They are also already on the way.

"Personally, I very much hope that the so-called bridging aid part 3 will also help the retail sector accordingly," said Althusmann.

He also hoped that funds from bridging aid 2, which had not been spent until December, could be transferred.
