Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - The Saarland Prime Minister Tobias Hans (CDU) welcomed a star singing child on Wednesday.

It brought him and all employees in the State Chancellery good wishes and blessings for the year 2021, as the State Chancellery in Saarbrücken announced.

Because of the corona pandemic, it came alone and on behalf of all carol singers in Saarland.

In addition, it was received in the outdoor area in the courtyard of the State Chancellery in accordance with pandemic rights.

The carol singers collect donations for children in need.

The motto of the 2021 caroling campaign is “Giving children support - in Ukraine and around the world”.

The Ukraine is representative of numerous children's aid projects in more than 100 countries.

The “Dreikönigssingen” campaign is sponsored by the children's mission organization “Die Sternsinger” and the Association of German Catholic Youth.

The campaign lives "from the commitment of children, young people and many adults who work together for people in need," said Hans.

"Especially in the difficult situation of the corona pandemic, it is nice that the children who are also suffering from the current restrictions show their compassion and charity for their peers who are worse off."

Because of the corona pandemic, the carol singers are not moving from door to door this year.

Many people throughout Germany have developed creative ideas on how the blessing can also be delivered without contact;

as a “blessing package” with a blessing sticker or a piece of blessed chalk or as a digital visit on the screen.

Since its start in 1959, the campaign has developed into the world's largest solidarity campaign by children for children.

Since then, around 1.19 billion euros have been collected and more than 75,600 projects for children in Africa, Latin America, Asia, Oceania and Eastern Europe have been supported.
