Würzburg (AP) - The Würzburg Kickers missed an important sign in the relegation battle in the basement duel of the 2nd Bundesliga against FC St. Pauli.

Despite about 50 minutes in excess, the Lower Franconians had to be satisfied with a 1-1 (1-0) win against the tireless Hamburgers in the self-proclaimed final to stay in class on Wednesday evening.

With the first point after five defeats in a row, the Würzburgs remain bottom of the table.

After the draw in the catch-up game, St. Pauli has been without a threesome for twelve games and is the penultimate one with four points more than the Kickers.

New signing Marvin Pieringer from SC Freiburg II gave Kickers the lead on his promising debut in the ninth minute with a penalty kick.

After a yellow-red card against Pauli captain Marvin Knoll (41st), the team of coach Bernhard Trares even played in an intense duel for a long time in the majority.

Ironically, the former Würzburg Rico Benatelli (57th) rewarded the guests who hit the aluminum twice in the first half.

The meeting was originally scheduled for December 16, but it was postponed after a Corona case at the Kickers.
