Julian Assange, who is in custody in the UK for violating British bail rules, was today denied bail.

Assange had requested to be released on bail pending trial, but was now denied.

Assange, who in the US is accused of espionage and computer hacking, applied to the Ecuadorian embassy in the UK in 2012 when he was also wanted by Sweden on suspicion of rape.

He lived there for seven years until he was dragged out of the building in 2019.

Fragile health

Earlier this week, the news came that Assange will not be extradited to the United States as his health is judged to be too fragile.

The allegations in the United States are about Assange's organization Wikileaks publishing publications of tens of thousands of classified American documents about military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Julian Assange himself claims that he acted as a journalist and that the documents were of general interest.

The United States is expected to appeal the ruling.

The Swedish case was dropped before Assange left the embassy.
