Saarbrücken (dpa / lrs) - Saarland's Prime Minister Tobias Hans (CDU) is pleased about the green light for the corona vaccine from the US pharmaceutical company Moderna in the EU.

"This is another ray of light on the horizon and gives hope that the pandemic will lose its horror in the course of the year," said Hans on Wednesday in Saarbrücken.

"We see that the demand for vaccines is very high - the more vaccines are available, the better and faster we can meet this demand."

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has recommended the conditional approval of Moderna's corona vaccine in the EU. The vaccine should be approved for people aged 18 and over, the EMA announced on Wednesday in Amsterdam. The EU Commission now has to make the final decision on approval. This is a formality and could be done in no time. This would pave the way for the second vaccine against Covid-19 in the EU after the approval of the preparation from Pfizer and Biontech.
