Hamburg (dpa / lno) - The Hamburg police have temporarily arrested a woman who wanted to deprive a senior citizen of her savings with a so-called grandchildren's trick.

In the Bramfeld district, the 73-year-old got a call from her alleged grandson on Tuesday, the police announced on Wednesday.

The man claimed he was with a notary and urgently needed money to buy a house.

The elderly lady suspected the attempted fraud and her husband immediately notified the police.

In order to catch the perpetrator, the elderly lady first went to her bank.

She promised her alleged grandson that she would help him out with 10,000 euros in cash, coins and jewelry.

He said that an employee of the notary would pick up the valuables and money at a meeting point.

There, the investigators caught a 27-year-old.

She was later released for lack of grounds for detention.

The investigation into the accomplices continues, according to the police.
