British justice has sentenced a Buckingham Palace employee to eight months in prison for having stolen official medals and photos of the royal family from the residence of Queen Elizabeth II.

Adamo Canto, 37, had pleaded guilty to several thefts that occurred between November 11, 2019 and August 7, 2020, London police said in a statement on Tuesday.

The man had been working as a catering assistant in the palace since 2015.

The police had found in the apartments of the suspect a "significant quantity" of stolen objects, for a total worth up to 100,000 pounds (110,000 euros) but sold well below its value, according to the prosecutor Simon Maughan.

Among the loot were two prestigious medals, found for sale on the online auction site eBay, he added.

The thirty-something had also stolen the photo album of the royal banquet given during an official visit by President Donald Trump, worth 1,500 pounds (1,660 euros).

In total, the man had stolen 77 items from the palace shop, but also other items from staff lockers, lingerie, the Royal collection box office or even Prince Andrew's warehouse.
