Biden further says that the violence in Washington does not represent what the United States stands for.

One person has been shot by police in the congress area and several police officers are said to have been injured.

- This must stop now, says Biden.

He also urges incumbent President Donald Trump to go live and clearly condemn the action.

- This is not a demonstration, it's rebellion.

The world is watching, just like so many Americans, he continues.

- Democracy is fragile and maintaining it requires leaders to have the courage to stand up for it and not think about personal interests, says Joe Biden.
