Munich (dpa / lby) - In Bavaria, the carnival holidays are being canceled due to the Corona crisis.

The holiday week, actually planned from February 15 to 19, will not exist, during which lessons can be made up that had been canceled due to the pandemic, said Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) on Wednesday after a special meeting of the Bavarian cabinet in Munich.

As expected, the Bavarian cabinet had previously extended and tightened the corona lockdown in Bavaria, which had existed since mid-December, until the end of January.

The Council of Ministers approved the decision of the federal and state governments from the previous day.

"The lockdown will be extended and deepened in some places," said Söder in Munich.

As a result, not only will large parts of the trade, the hotel and catering trade in Bavaria remain closed from next Monday, January 11, but also schools and kindergartens despite the end of the Christmas holidays.

Emergency care is to be set up for day-care centers, students from levels 1 to 6, special needs students and children with disabilities.

In addition, there should be the opportunity to look after children privately - but only in a permanent other contact family, as Söder said.

Distance learning should be offered in all schools and grades.

Depending on the incidence of infection, a return to face-to-face teaching - staggered according to grade - is aimed for from February.

In addition, from Monday, people in regions with an incidence of more than 200 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days will have restricted freedom of movement.

This means that for private reasons they are only allowed to stay a maximum of 15 kilometers around their place of residence - but shopping is excluded from this.

This is primarily intended to prevent tourist excursions.

In order to reduce the number of contacts and thus the risk of possible infection with the coronavirus, meetings with a maximum of one person from another household are permitted from Monday.

So far, this has been the case for up to five people from another household.
