Issum (dpa / lnw) - While handling gas bottles on his property, a 77-year-old man was critically injured in Issum on the Lower Rhine.
He was busy in the greenhouse when there was a deflagration and the gas ignited, the police announced on Wednesday.
The 77-year-old suffered life-threatening burn injuries and was flown to a special clinic by helicopter.
His wife (78) was taken to hospital on suspicion of smoke inhalation.
The police emphasized: "There are no indications of third-party debt".
It was a tragic accident.
